New thematic series published in the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ETHE): Using e-Assessment to enhance student learning and evidence learning outcomes

The ETHE journal, is a publication with 12 years of history, published by ICDE member the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) since the beginning, the University of the Andes (Colombia) has been recently incorporated as co-editor. ETHE aims to be a vehicle for exchanging knowledge between professionals and researchers in the e-learning field. 

The first monograph published during a new stage of the journal is now available in the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education: “Using e-Assessment to enhance student learning and evidence learning outcomes”.

Athabasca University's latest publication: Emergence and Innovation in Digital Learning

ICDE member Athabasca University has released a new title in May in the series: “Issues in Distance Education.”  The book is called: "Emergence and Innovation in Digital Learning: Foundations and Applications". It is edited by the Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning and Technology, George Veletsianos. ICDE, partner of Global Ethic Forum 2016, presents a keynote on the Responsibility of the Higher Education Sector 

The Global Ethics Forum 2016 (GEF 2016) will take place from 23-25 June in Geneva, Switzerland. This year, the theme is "Higher Education - Ethics in Action" with a focus on ethical challenges in education. More than 30 expert speakers and 100 participants from around the world are expected.
ICDE, partner of the Global Ethic Forum 2016, will be represented by its Secretary General Gard Titlestad who will present a key note on: "the Responsability of the Higher Education Sector", on Thursday June 23 at 10h-11h and a plenary session on "Measurement and Quality" on Friday June 24. He will also chair a parallel panel on that last topic.

The ICDE Global Doctoral Consortium and the Global OER Graduate network partner up for doctoral students

The ICDE Global Doctoral Consortium, GDC, and the Global OER Graduate network, GO-GN, are both networks supporting PhD research communities. The GDC has a focus on research fields related to online, open, flexible and technology enhanced learning and GO-GN on open education. There is overlap and synergy between these subject areas both in terms of the focus of study, and the practice of the online, open research process.

Global Doctoral Consortium – sign up for invitations

During the first part of June, ICDE together with founding partners will launch the Global Doctoral Consortium (GDC), a global initiative aiming to support doctoral students in the research field related to online, open, flexible and technology enhanced learning.

The Doctoral Consortium responds to an identified need to develop global exchange of knowledge and experience from this whole research field. By encouraging doctoral students to discuss topics of common interest, to internationalize through virtual and onsite events and to build global relationships, ICDE will enable doctoral students to extend their networks and receive broad feedback and peer evaluation from other researchers in the field.

UOC experts find that open-source software projects do not operate democratically

The purpose of the open-source software movement is to advocate open (the code is public), collaborative (the community participates in the development process) software development. However, neither this goal nor the theoretically democratic functioning that one would expect is always met. This is the main conclusion reached by the SOM Research Lab at the ICDE member Universitat Oberta de Catalunya's (UOC) Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3).

A Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) research project in collaboration with around fifty international experts outlines the shape of higher education beyond 2020.

“The university of the future will be more digital, flexible and specialized”.  These are some of the main conclusions of a research project presented on UOC Research Week on the university of the future, which for a year has been prepared by around fifteen researchers from the eLearn Center, a UOC online education research and innovation centre, in collaboration with around fifty international and MIT experts.

Open Praxis partners with the Open Education Consortium for publication of selected papers from the OEC conference

Open Praxis has partnered with the Open Education Consortium for the publication of some selected papers from their Global Conference in the journal in 2014, 2015 and 2016. UNESCO Panel on Financing for Education on 25 April 2016 will be web-streamed live 

The panel on Financing for SDG4-Education 2030, organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the Global Campaign for Education, in the framework of the 2016 Global Action Week for Education will explore and define opportunities and challenges in financing the new education agenda, particularly in terms of addressing the needs of the  most marginalized populations. It will take place on 25 April 2016 (10am to 12am), at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Room IV.

The Islamic Online University's case study on the usage of Moodle: an Open source learning management system
