Get nominated for a UNESCO Prize

As an NGO in consultative partnership with UNESCO, ICDE can endorse or nominate candidates for prestigious UNESCO awards.

UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development 2023-2024

The UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development was created to support the improvement of teaching and learning quality in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, and is awarded every two years.

The Prize amounts to US $300,000, which is equally divided between three winners whose projects aim at improving worldwide the performance and effectiveness of teachers worldwide.

The deadline for submission of the online application to UNESCO is 31 January 2024.

To complete the application, candidates must request a nomination letter from an NGO they are a member of. Members of ICDE are encouraged to contact the ICDE Secretariat and make this request by 17 January 2024 to

Once the candidate applies, ICDE will be notified of the application submission, and confirm to the Prize Secretariat that ICDE has indeed nominated the submitted project.

UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education

The theme of this new edition is “Digital learning for greening education”, rewarding projects that use digital technology to deliver innovative and inclusive climate education to equip learners with the knowledge, values and skills to tackle climate disruption and promote sustainable development. 

Two projects will be chosen, and each laureate will receive US $25,000 and international recognition during an Award Ceremony to be held at UNESCO Headquarters.

Application process:

  • The nomination process takes place via an online platform.
  • Applicants can request access to the online platform here.
  • The application, in English or French and together with a nomination letter issued by an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO, should be submitted via the online platform by 5 February 2024 (midnight, Paris time).
