As an NGO in consultative partnership with UNESCO, ICDE can endorse or nominate candidates for prestigious UNESCO awards.

2025 UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development

Deadline for submission to ICDE: 9 May 2025

This Prize was established to reward exceptional projects and programmes undertaken by institutions, organizations or other entities in the field of education for sustainable development.

The Prize aims to generate and scale up action at all levels of education and learning, and contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

To be eligible, the project/programme of the nominee must:

  • Be ongoing and have already been running for at least four years
  • Show presence of evidence of results and a high impact relative to the invested resources
  • Be replicable and scalable
  • Contribute to one or more of the five priority action areas of the ESD for 2030 framework

UNESCO-Uzbekistan Beruniy Prize for Scientific Research on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

Deadline for submission to ICDE: 20 June 2025

This Prize seeks to reward outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions and organizations that have made significant contributions to the understanding of artificial intelligence and its ethical implications by promoting research, cooperation and its use in various fields. Read more here.

2025 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education

Deadline for submission to ICDE: 1 May 2025

The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education honours outstanding and innovative practices advancing girls’ and women’s education, and in turn, improving the quality of their lives.

Established in 2015, it is funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and consists of two USD 50,000 awards to help further the work of laureates in this field.

Who can be nominated?

Individuals, institutions or organizations advancing girls’ and women’s education through an established and ongoing project or programme which has been running for at least 2 years.
