What is the ICDE Open Education Network?
The ICDE Open Education Network is ICDE’s response to the UNESCO Dubai Declaration’s call for international collaboration:
“Reinforced collaborative mechanisms at regional and international levels are crucial to ensure that OER initiatives harness, when appropriate, emerging technologies including AI, in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including addressing issues such as gender bias.”
The new Open Education Network reconfirms ICDE’s commitment to supporting the uptake of OER and advocating for various aspects of openness relevant to education, building on the previous ICDE OER Advocacy Committee.
What will the Network do?
The network will facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration and project development among ICDE members that leverages on members’ expertise and practice within Open Education.
The mandate for the ICDE Open Education Network is aligned with the ICDE Strategic Plan 2025-2028 and the ICDE Activity Plan 2025-2026. The exact activities will be determined by the ICDE Secretariat and the network lead through an agreed work plan for its first two-year phase of establishment.
Who can apply?
The network is open to all ICDE members (individual and student members included) with interest and expertise within open education and related topics such as open-source software, open data, open AI models, open standards and open content. A network Chair from one of ICDE’s institutional members will be appointed by the ICDE Board.
The network members should reflect the global diversity of ICDE as well as gender and age balance. Should the recruitment among members be significantly high, sub-committees or smaller interest/working groups can be considered.
What is expected?
The network members are expected to take part in virtual meetings and contribute to relevant knowledge products and services for open education. They are also invited to represent at relevant events, including the ICDE World Conference and other international conferences.
The ICDE Secretariat will provide administrative support, promotion and connections from our membership base and support on themes and objectives. Regular check-in meetings will be set up to support the lead, in particular in the early stages of establishment.
