Open Education Leadership Summit 2018: Achieve more through Collaborative Open Education

ICDE is teaming up with OEC and the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research to organize its annual Leadership Summit as the Open Education Leadership Summit 2018 on 3-4 December in Paris, hosted by Le Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers (CNAM).

The Open Education Leadership Summit 2018 is organized by ICDE, the Open Education Consortium, OEC and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, MESR.
     
Participants: Leaders on all levels of online learning and open education at higher education institutions, leaders from organizations, companies, and agencies engaged in advocating for and leading adoption of open, governmental senior officials and newcomers to Open, who are looking to lead.
   

Tentative topics:

  • Setting the scene: How Open Education unveils in different regions of the world, leadership approaches.
  • The Open Education leadership challenges: Policy, Quality, Digitalization, Transformation and Sustaining educational offerings.
  • Open Education strategies for break through achievements, designing a roadmap.
  • How can collaboration increase impact from Open Education?
  • Leading Open Education - Best practice cases.
  • Open Education as a catalyst for innovation.
  • Students voice for open education.
  • I want to start up Open Education, what are the pathways and stepping stones.
  • The collaborative roadmap for achieving more.

Delivery Models for Online, Open, Flexible and Technology-Enhanced Higher Education
Foreword to the Report by ICDE Secretary General Gard Titlestad

Late 2014, a dialogue started in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I visited universities collaborating in a consortium for online education, and I took note of the fact that by using a collaborative model the universities were able to reach out to a hundred thousand students more than represented in their own campuses. This led to a dialogue with the consortium president: observing the partly disruptive and innovative development in online, open, flexible and technology-enhanced education (OOFAT), would it be possible based on an analysis of a number of institutional cases, to collapse these cases into models? Or as said in the report, to identify emerging models of provision?

Creative Commons Summit 2018 – A Celebration of The Big Open

The annual Creative Commons summit was held in Toronto, Canada, the 13- 15 of April. The summit was sold out, and had attendants from 48 counties. 192 speakers held 110 sessions, celebrating open access to knowledge through open content. The broad engagement, for a larger collaboration between stakeholders and community members (The Big Open), was a recurring theme in both keynotes and in different sessions.  All panel sessions had members of both gender.

New Reports and Findings: Job Destruction is Hyped

Three new reports provide important findings and suggestions on the impact from Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive technologies.  Thanks to BBC and Financial Times – new findings have got attention, represented with the fresh report “Automation, skills use and training” (OECD, March 2018). The report suggests that 14 % of the jobs in OECD countries are “highly automatable” which is far fewer than suggested by Frey and Osborne.

Ljubljana OER Action Plan 2017 adopted to support quality open-licensed educational resources to build knowledge societies and achieve SDG 4

The second World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress closed today as experts and national delegates from 111 countries adopted by acclamation the 2017 Ljubljana OER Action Plan.

The 2017 Ljubljana OER Action Plan presents 41 recommended actions to mainstream open-licensed resources to help all Member States to build Knowledge Societies and achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 4 on “quality and lifelong education.”

Final Document of the Ugra Declaration: On Preserving Languages And Promoting Linguistic Diversity In Cyberspace For Inclusive Sustainable Development

The Global Expert Meeting on Multilingualism in Cyberspace for Inclusive Sustainable Development was the first-ever international forum to scientifically address the role and impact of multilingualism and linguistic diversity (in real life and in cyberspace) in achieving progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
