Internet World Stats latest estimations indicate 3,345,832,772 verified Internet users in the world as of November 2015. This corresponds to an Internet penetration rate of 46.1%. In other words, nearly half of all the people in the world have access to the Internet.

The following table shows the world Internet growth from the year 2000 till 2015 for the nine main World Geographic Regions. The Internet has grown very much in three areas: Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean. South and Central America have also grown very much.

From the above table, it becomes clear that the gap between the regions with low Internet access and the regions with high access is getting smaller. This is great news, and in line with the Millennium Development Goals for 2015.
