ICDE Quality Review site visit at Universitas Terbuka
ICDE has performed a Quality Review site visit at Universitas Terbuka. The Quality Review process is an ICDE member service designed to promote and support quality open, distance, flexible and online education. The focus for the ICDE Quality Review service is the enhancement of quality of student support. As a central element of open, distance and online education it will involve many aspects of an institution. The reviews are undertaken in the spirit of academic peer review by a reviewer team contracted by ICDE, but with independence of judgment.
After a desk review of self-evaluation documents provided by the university, the experts are currently carrying out a site visit at Universitas Terbuka to meet and to discuss with key staff and student boards. During the site visit, that took place in February 9-14, the reviewers got insights in several relevant centers as well as regional offices.
The review is based on first global overview of quality models, by Ossiannilsson, Williams, Camilleri and Brown (2015), an ICDE supported study. According to the research, the following areas used to be reviewed in international quality models, should be considered for high international quality within the area of open online education and learning:
• Strategic management
• Curriculum design
• Course design
• Course delivery
• Student support
• Staff support
The review at University Terbuka will consider the six areas, and also their mutual alignments following international indicators and best (next) practice.
