The Provost and Vice President, Academic has a broad and deep mandate to lead, champion and advance AU’s academic mission. As the University’s chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice President, Academic is responsible for the creation and elevation of academic excellence and quality, including academic programs, research, academic policy, accreditation, and learner services. The office combines and balances academic leadership with leadership on institutional planning, budgeting and resource allocation. Reporting to the President, the Provost serves an integral role in the development and implementation of AU’s strategic direction and academic priorities
With a passion for open, online and distributed education, the successful candidate will have outstanding academic credentials, a distinguished record of scholarship and university administration, and a commitment to excellence in open education and research. A proven and influential leader who appreciates and encourages innovation in all forms, he or she will have the ability to bring together a geographically dispersed workforce to positively focus and advance AU’s academic mission. A champion of access to higher education for students, the Provost and Vice President, Academic will combine pragmatism and vision, be a creative problem solver who has the ability to take calculated risks and has an appreciation and respect for teaching, research and the role open access, online and distributed education plays in today’s society.
