2016 ICDE Presidents’ Summit is a Full House


In three weeks, 20 -23 November, Charles Sturt University will host the 2016 ICDE Presidents’ Summit near Sydney at Cronulla Beach.  Summit registration is closed and reflects the highest attendance in recent years with 85 executive delegates representing thirty nations expected in attendance.

Professor Don Olcott, Jr., CSU Summit  Host Director at CSU and a  2013  recipient of ICDE’s Individual Prize of Excellence, stated ‘this increase is indicative of the powerful role that open and distance learning  has assumed in global higher education. Indeed, it is clear evidence of renewed leadership and success of the ICDE Secretariat and its Executive Committee for driving critical agendas and collaboration across the profession.’   

The updated Summit Programme will be available on the website at http://uimagine.edu.au/icde on Monday, 7 November.   The programme will showcase a variety of key sessions on leadership, business practices, international partnerships, quality,  learning analytics, and Open and distance learning  trends in the Australasian region.  A featured keynote speaker is Dr. Bill Pepicello, President Emeritus, University of Phoenix who will address what open, distance, online an flexible universities will look like in the future as well as their leadership.   Professor Mansoor Al Alwar, Chancellor, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, will also provide a keynote on lessons learned in the Middle East in addressing the challenges facing smart learning in higher education. 

One of the most exciting sessions planned for the Summit is the Regional Forums on Key Issues.  ICDE represents a diverse range of cultural, social,  geographic, and political-economic regions of the world – and more importantly ICDE values this diversity within its membership. The Regional forums led by Maxim Jean-Louis from Contact North I Contact Nord and Kamal B. Gunaherath from The Open University of Sri Lanka will provide a platform for delegates to come together to discuss key issues in their regions and to explore innovative solutions and strategies with their international peers.
