Exclusive TIN virtual event: Action Competence and GenAI in Education for Planetary Well-being

June 4, 2025 at 0900 - 1030 UTC+2 (CEST) / 1000 - 1130 UTC+3 local time Finland

Calling all members of ICDE Technology and Innovation Network (TIN) – do not miss this rare opportunity to join an exclusive TIN virtual workshop with a guest expert host!

About the workshop
This workshop centres on exploring the relationship between Generative AI (GenAI) and action competence (Jensen and Schnack, 1997) within the context of education for Planetary Well-being (Kortetmäki et al., 2024). This integration encourages both students and educators to actively engage in collective efforts towards sustainability and to participate in a dialogic, reciprocal relationship between humanity and the planet (Aaltonen et al., 2023; Oinonen et al., 2024).

GenAI introduces a new variable into this equation, one that is increasingly shaping the dynamics of everyday life, including notions of human agency, critical thinking and action competence.

By examining the influence of GenAI on how we teach and learn, the workshop offers not only a space for deep and collaborative reflection, but also an opportunity to support the doctoral research of our guest workshop host: Orsi Tuba.

Orsi is undertaking her doctoral studies on action competence in education for planetary well-being at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, where she is a member of the Innovative Learning Environments research group. More recently, her research interests have expanded to include the intersection of action competence and GenAI in education. Therefore, selected parts of the workshop will be recorded for data collection purposes and all data will be anonymised.

What to expect
Participants will be invited to share reflections and critical perspectives from their own educational practices in a variety of interactive formats, including an organised online debate. Ultimately, the workshop seeks to confront the urgent challenge of transforming knowledge into collective and impactful action in the age of AI, viewed through the lens of planetary well-being.

Participants
This workshop is open to TIN members by direct email invitation. Let us know if you are not a member and would like to join at icde@icde.org
