ICDE International Conference, New Delhi, India
The ICDE Internatioanl Conference in New Delhi has just taken place; 18-23 November, 2005.
The ICDE International Conference in New Delhi was hosted by Indira Gandhi National Open University. The Conference brought together a large number of people with diverse backgrounds from all over the world. The Conference was structured into core events (plenary, parallel and poster sessions) and extension events (workshops, discussion groups and special interest events, as well as meetings, special concurrent sessions, exhibitions and media presentations).
Themes of the Conference
The 2005 ICDE International Conference on Open and Distance Education focused on: Open & Distance Education in Global Environment; Opportunities for Collaboration.
Issues, challenges and concerns relating to internationalization and networking, technology-enabled education, quality and accreditation, and distance education and development at all levels of education and training were debated.

Core Events
The formal Conference programme consisted of the following core events: plenary keynotes, parallel sessions, and poster sessions.
Plenary Sessions
- Inauguration: The conference was inaugurated on November 19 afternoon, 2005, the birthday of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister, India, by the President/Prime Minister of India, by the President/Prime Minister of India, followed by conference keynote address and reception dinner.
- Plenary and panel sessions: Five plenary keynotes and a number of plenary and panel sessions were organized for all the three days of the conference.
Parallel Sessions
Multiple parallel sessions were organized simultaneously for all the three days for presentation of thematic papers, with 3-4 paper presentations in a session, and conducting discussion groups/special interest groups.

The following distinguished personalities were invited to present keynotes:
- President/Prime Minister/Minister for HRD of Government of India for inauguration.
- Sir John Daniel, COL, Canada for 'Inaugural keynote'.
- Professor Dr. Ing Helmut Hoyer for keynote on Internationalisation: collaboration and networking.
- Professor H.P. Dikshit, IGNOU, India for keynote on 'ICT-enabled education'.
- Professor Fred Lockwood, MMU, UK for keynote on Quality and accreditation.'
- Professor Dr. Jan Olav Fretland and Dr. Dag Rune Ramstad, Norway Opening Universities, Norway, for keynote on 'The Norwegian Model for Innovation and Learning through Interaction between Higher Education and Working Life.
- Professor Abdul W. Khan, UNESCO, Paris, France for keynote on 'Distance education for development'.
