Bahrain, Indonesia, Kenya, and Oman are working with UNESCO to implement the Paris OER Declaration. The first meeting of a project to achieve this aim was held recently at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

A regional policy forum in preparation for the World OER Congress was held in South Africa in February. Presentations are available online, and a draft version of the Paris Declaration has been published for comments. Registration for the Open Exhibition at the World OER Congress, to be held 20-22 June 2012, is now open.

Guidelines for OER in Higher Education institutions

UNESCO and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) have recently published a set of guidelines for the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) in higher education. This important document outlines in a concise format the key issues, and provides advice on the integration of OER .

Launch of OER Asia

ICDE member institution Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, has recently launched an Open Educational Resource forum entitled OER Asia. This site has been created to cultivate an Open Educational Resource community in the Asia region, inspired by a research grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

Webinars on defining, using and creating OER

A series of webinars organized by the online learning platform Softchalk and which aim to highlight and explore issues related to OER and provide live demonstrations on their use are planned for 2011. A forthcoming session entitled, Finding and Using OER: The Where and the When will take place online on 17 August at 15.00 EST.

Open Education: Changing Educational Practices

The latest edition of the online journal elearning papers is dedicated to open education. Edited by Ulf-Daniel Ehlers, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany and Director of the European Foundation for Quality in E-Learning, and Tapio Koskinen of Aalto University School of Science and Technology, Finland, it contains papers demonstrating trends towards greater cultures and practice of openness taking place throughout Europe and beyond.
