New host for Open Praxis

Following a call for interest for the renewal of its online journal, ICDE is pleased to announce that Inés Gil-Jaurena from Universidad Nacional de Eduación a Distancia (UNED), Spain, has begun a two-year term as editor. The relaunched Open Praxis will demonstrate creative and innovative research and highlight challenges, lessons and achievements in the practice of distance and e-learning.

Latest contributions to ODL online debate

Presentations on the status of open and distance learning in India and Brazil are the latest contributions to this ICDE convened online discussion on the UNESCO/ World Bank Group infoDev sponsored Educational Technology Debate portal. Comments have come from countries including Canada, Uganda, Uruguay, Ethiopia and the Nordic countries.

ICDE is convening an online debate on open and distance learning on the UNESCO/ World Bank Group infoDev sponsored Educational Technology Debate portal. The debate will feature specific contributions from ICDE members representing the BRIC nations. The dialogue has already begun and input and opinions are eagerly sought.

UNESCO World OER Congress

The First World OER Congress will be held 20-22 June 2012 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. Organized in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the Congress aims to influence educational planning worldwide and to encourage governments to support the development and use of open educational resources.

UNESCO e-learning tools

UNESCO's office in Bangkok has released a collection of e-learning tools aimed at high school students, university students, educators and teacher trainers as part of UNESCO's ICT in Education Teacher Training Series.

New Rector at Universidade Aberta, Portugal

ICDE member institution Universidade Aberta, Portugal, recently announced the election of Professor Paulo Dias as Rector for a four-year mandate. Professor Dias formally assumed his new position in a ceremony that took place at the university in December 2011.

New President appointed for the Commonwealth of Learning

ICDE member institution, the Commonwealth of Learning, recently announced the appointment of Asha Kanwar as President. ICDE extends warm congratulations to Professor Kanwar, who will take up her duties on 1 June 2012.

DEANZ conference: Shift Happens

ICDE associate member the Distance Education Association of New Zealand (DEANZ) is holding a conference entitled Shift Happens. The conference, which will be held 11-13 April 2012 in Wellington, New Zealand, will look at the three themes, resilience, relevance and reform in the context of education. Registration closes 12 March 2012.
