ODL in BRIC nations - ICDE session at European conference
Published 08.12.11ICDE hosted a special session at the recent Online Educa Berlin conference with contributions from ICDE members from the BRIC countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China, who described present trends and challenges in open and distance learning in their respective countries.
Distance education marketing survey findings
Published 29.09.11ICDE, in partnership with Dr. Marie Ferreira of the University of South Africa, is working to prepare an international marketing campaign for distance education. As the first stage of this project, a mapping survey sought to establish the current status of communication and marketing activities by institutions to promote distance education. The results are presented here
Online tool to assess open educational practices
Published 20.12.11The Open Educational Quality Initiative has published guidelines for open educational practice as an interactive metromap, enabling learners, educational practitioners, leaders of organisations, and policy makers to plot their trajectory on the path to open educational practices.
Open educational practices recognized through OPAL Awards
Published 07.12.11The winners of the OPAL Awards for quality and innovation through open educational practices were announced at a ceremony in Berlin, Germany on 2 December following a rigorous adjudication process. ICDE took the lead in running the awards in this European Commission supported project.
UNESCO Mobile Learning Week presentations
Published 24.11.11Presentations from the First UNESCO Mobile Learning Week, which took place 12-16 December, are now available online. The keynote and panel presentations from the open symposium on mobile learning which followed on 15-16 December have also been published.

EDEN Annual Conference: call for papers
Published 07.12.11ICDE Associate member EDEN has released a call for papers ahead of its Annual Conference to be held 6-9 June 2012 in Porto, Portugal. The theme of next year's conference is Open Learning Generations, with the aim of putting focus on junior and senior e-learners.
E-learning in Saudi Arabia
Published 07.12.11The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Higher Education has published a comprehensive report on e-learning and distance education in the region. The report includes a general outline on the use and development of ODL, a description of the National Center for E-Learning and Distance Education, and provides an overview of the different projects the centre is involved in.
ICT higher education case studies from Asia and the Pacific
Published 07.12.11UNESCO has recently published a report entitled ICT for Higher Education: Case studies from Asia and the Pacific. The institutions profiled include a number of ICDE member institutions: Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, India; Shanghai Radio and TV University, China; and Korea National Open University.
