The future of distance education in Norway

ICDE member, Studiesenteret.no, a national network of study centres in Norway, hosted a conference on The Future of Distance Education on 10 August. Prof. Michael G. Moore was the keynote speaker at this conference in the ICDE Secretariat's host country, which was attended by Norwegian Minister of Education Kristin Halvorsen.

 

The Studiesenteret.no network, which links 80 municipalities and seven university colleges in Norway, aims at building a more extensive national structure for tertiary education and lifelong learning. Its conference - which brought the future of teaching methods on the agenda - was attended by 50 people, while around 70 followed the presentations via live web-TV allowing for virtual interaction and contributions throughout the day.

Keynote speaker, Prof. Michael G. Moore from Pennsylvania State University, USA, was introduced by ICDE Secretary General Dr. Carl Holmberg. With several decades of experience in the field, Moore is well known in academic circles for his work with distance education.

During the conference professional musicians and teachers from the Manhattan School of Music, USA, presented a lively jazz performance via web-TV - both an enjoyable cultural event and a demonstration of what is possible in distance learning.
