ICDE extends warm congratulations to member institution, the Open University of China (CRTVU) on the occasion of their 30th anniversary.

Since establishment, the open universities in China have educated more than seven million graduates, who are now working in all spheres of life around the country.

One of their greatest achievements of the past ten years, has been the "One-College-Student-for-One-Village Initiative" approved by the Ministry of Education. Its aim is to extend higher education to rural areas through modern open and distance education, to cultivate "capable, retainable, and excellent" technical and managerial professionals.

Open universities in China have not only turned out millions of high-level professionals, but also provided non-degree education to 50 million people.

The development of the open universities in China has exerted great influence on the world. The Open University of China acts as a chair unit of the Asian Association of Open Universities and through this and its membership of ICDE has made a great contribution to the communication of - and cooperation within the field of - distance education around the world.
