New Rector at Universidade Aberta, Portugal

ICDE member institution Universidade Aberta, Portugal, recently announced the election of Professor Paulo Dias as Rector for a four-year mandate. Professor Dias formally assumed his new position in a ceremony that took place at the university in December 2011.

 

Professor Dias has a PhD in Education, and is full professor of the University of Minho since 1990. Professor  Dias is active in work at the Centre of Education Research, having as his main areas of concern: educational innovation based on information and communication technologies, distance education and e-learning, networked education and training, and online learning communities, within which he coordinates and participates in national and European projects.

He was President of the Institute of Education and Psychology of the University of Minho from November 2006 to February 2010, having been Vice President of the same Institute for the six previous years. On 16 December 2011, he took over as Rector of Universidade Aberta, following elections held on 3 November of the same year.
