The organization partners with 44 publicly-assisted Ontario colleges and universities and over 250 literacy and training organizations
to help Ontarians in small, rural, and remote areas, including Aboriginal and Francophone communities, participate in education
and training opportunities without leaving their own community.
In 2010-2011, Contact North | Contact Nord supported almost 34,000 registrations in college, university, secondary school, literacy and other training courses for its educational and training partners. Since it was established in 1986, Contact North | Contact Nord has helped an estimated 81,000 students continue their education and achieve their goals.
Contact North | Contact Nord is committed to supporting innovation in the field of online learning and distance education. Among its Research Associates, are Sir John Daniel, Dr. Stephen Murgatroyd and Dr. Tony Bates. The organization has partnered with other leaders in the sector around the world including Open Universities Australia and JISC, and shares its expertise and experience nationally and internationally with governments and organizations in countries such as China, Trinidad and Tobago, and South Africa.
In 1999, Contact North | Contact Nord received the Award of Excellence for Institutional Achievement in Distance Education, one of three such international designations bestowed by the Commonwealth of Learning. In 2011, Contact North | Contact Nord’s President and Chief Executive Officer served as Special Advisor to the Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities for an Ontario Online Institute.
