The OPAL Register enables organizations to register and self-assess their OEP maturity levels based on the OPAL OEP Guidelines with questions on levels of open policies, use of open educational resources and open learning architectures.

Organizations can choose to have their assessment critically reviewed by independent experts thus providing the organization with a confidential, comprehensive learning report containing verified statements and comments on the potential for improvement, and fields of excellence. The organization can then choose to make this report publicly available.

The best reviewed public assessments can be considered for the OPAL Awards which provide exposure and recognition for successful open educational practices resulting in the improvement of quality and innovation in educational organizations. The winners and highly commended entries in the OPAL Awards will be announced at the 2011 Online Educa Berlin Conference.
