Open Universiteit Nederland has over the past 25 years earned a firm reputation as a developer of high quality learning materials designed for self-study.
Where initially the learning materials were offered as books with video, audio and computer applications, they are now heading for a media mix of digital learning materials (partly as Open Educational Resources), online learning services and virtual learning activities. Simultaneously the original focus on content is gradually shifting towards learning services for students.
Open Universiteit Nederland were hosts for the 23rd ICDE World Conference in June 2009, testament to the university's role as an international front-runner in e-learning.
Honorary doctorates
As part of the celebrations, Open Universiteit will hold an Academic Ceremony in Brussels this month where honorary doctorates will be presented to essayist and poet Geert van Istendael, and Prof. Brenda Gourley, former Vice Chancellor at the Open University, UK.
