OER Asia Symposium delivers strong messages

ICDE was one of the official supporters of a three-day symposium, Open Educational Resources in Asia: Policies and Practices, which held at Wawasan Open University, Penang, Malaysia in September, 2012. The proceedings, abstracts and presentations of OER Asia Symposium 2012 are available.

Wawasan Open University, host of OER Asia and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada which supports the Pan-Asia Network of Distance Open Resources Access, jointly organized a three-day symposium on open educational resources in Asia. The symposium was co-hosted by Disted College, Penang representing the College sector and was preceded by a one-day pre-conference workshop on OER.

The symposium focused on issues around policy and practice related to OER creation, use, reuse and remix and distribution in institutions of higher learning. Coming close on the heels of the UNESCO World OER Congress this symposium was especially targeted at national and institutional policy makers who are the key drivers to make global aspirations a reality at local levels.

ICDE Executive Committee President and Rector of Universitas Terbuka, Tian Belawati, gave one of the opening speeches at the event.

Proceedings, abstracts and presentations of OER Asia Symposium 2012 are available here.
