One week remaining to register online for the 23rd ICDE World Conference

The deadline for registration to partake in the 23rd ICDE World Conference is 1 June. On-site registration is also available, but only credit card payments will be accepted and an extra administration charge of EUR 50 will be applied.

Single day registration is also now available for Monday, 8 June and Tuesday, 9 June at the rate of EUR 350.

Programme for parallel sessions and workshops at the 23rd ICDE World Conference now published

Up to fourteen parallel sessions will be held on Monday, 8 June and Tuesday, 9 June covering seventeen separate strands and including special interest sessions on Language Learning, Assessing Students, Building and Using Virtual Learning Environments, Enhancing Communication in Virtual Learning, and M-Learning.

Two interesting workshops are also planned as part of the pre-conference programme on Sunday, 7 June: Serious games in Higher Education by Henk van den Brink and Rob Nadolski and Mobile Learning by Christian Glahn, Stefaan Ternier and Marcus Specht. It is necessary to register for the workshops through the conference website, and the fee of EUR 75 should be paid on arrival.

ICDE Prize of Excellence nominations

The ICDE Prize of Excellence is awarded to deserving institutions and individuals for the attainment of the highest possible level of excellence in the fields of open, distance and virtual learning. Nominations were invited from ICDE's members in March 2009.

The nominees for the 2009 Individual Prize are:

  • Asha Kanwar, Vice President of the Commonwealth of Learning
  • Marta Mena, General Coordinator of PROCAE
  • Swati Mujumdar, Director of Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning and Principal Director Symbiosis Society of Open Education
  • Atwi Suparman, Rector of Universitas Terbuka

The nominees for the 2009 Institutional Prize are:

  • Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance, the National Centre for Distance Education in France - CNED
  • European Distance and E-learning network - EDEN
  • Kyung Hee Cyber University, Korea
  • Shanghai Television University, China
  • Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, India

The winners will be announced on Tuesday, 9 June at the 23rd ICDE World Conference when a Prize for Lifelong Contribution to the field will also be awarded.

New ICDE Member - MKFC Stockholm College

ICDE wishes a very warm welcome to MKFC Stockholm College, Sweden

MKFC is one of the members of the Swedish Popular Adult Education family, and designs and delivers education from primary to university level based on the Millennium Development Goals. The main goal for MKFC is Education for All, and to support this goal MKFC offers education with End-to- End eLearning™.

MKFC Stockholm College is playing an active role in eLearning Africa 2009 to be held 27-29 May in Dakar, Senegal, where the College will present on mobile learning together with Mid Sweden University, The Open University of Tanzania and Örebro University, Sweden, and on End-to-End eLearning™ together with representatives from their teacher training programme in Somalia, the Community Action Plan (CAP) project in Ghana, and e-Journalism and Social Media at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
