Capacity building in Africa

ICDE's work on Distance Education, ICTs and capacity building in Africa

After the implementation of three contracts (Nigeria I, Rwanda I and Ethiopia), The World Bank made an open public call early in 2004 to carry out a number of projects in Africa. Many organisations presented their proposals. ICDE was chosen to implement all the projects.

Therefore in 2004, ICDE worked on implementation of the following projects regarding Distance Education and ICTs and capacity building in:

  • Democratic Republic of Congo phase I
  • Democratic Republic of Congo phase II
  • Nigeria Phase (I and II)
  • Rwanda
  • Ethiopia
These projects are at different levels of development and implementation. The World Bank chose ICDE among a number of candidates due to our organization's engagement and experience over many years on the African continent. Part of ICDE's task is building an electronic database on international expertise in distance education, ICTs, and Education to be used by the World Bank and African authorities as references and resources in future projects.
