Anadolu University, Turkey

ICDE is pleased to present a profile of Turkish member institution Anadolu University, a university dedicated to meeting the different educational demands in its country.


Anadolu University (AU) has provided distance education nationwide since 1982. More recently, AU has starting offering ODL opportunities to Turkish citizens living in Western Europe, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and in Azerbaijan.

The university is made up of 9 institutes, 38 research centres and units, 12 faculties, 7 schools and 4 vocational schools offering both on-campus and off-campus education. Three of the faculties, the Faculty of Open Education, Faculty of Business Administration and Faculty of Economics provide and organize distance education services. The open and distance education system offers 63 associate and bachelor degree programmes. Today, 48 % of the overall on- and off-campus Turkish higher education students are enrolled at AU’s open and distance learning system. The total number of distance students is around 1,300,000.

Teaching materials are designed and prepared according to the self-study format. The basic learning material is the course books supported by the e-Learning portal composed of e-Practice, e-Book, e-Television, e-Exam, e-Mentoring and e-Audio Book. There are also completely web-based degree and certificate programmes.

AU aims to provide the technology, structure and expertise needed to meet the different educational demands of its students.
