Quality reviews - call for reviewers

ICDE is working to develop its Quality Review service for institutions and announces a call for interest for individuals willing to join the pool of reviewers. Reviewers work in small teams and study documentation, visit the institution, and submit a report. Remuneration is provided, and travel costs and incidental expenses are covered.

Quality Reviews are designed to support institutions in their ambitions to enhance quality in student support, and in their developmental work. The proposal is thus not accreditation but assessment of quality, the opportunity to learn from others and to implement best practice.

For a Quality Review to take place, an institution pays a fee to ICDE, makes available extensive documentation - in English - concerning management of quality and standards, and facilitates access to staff and students.

ICDE appoints three persons with significant experience of quality assessment of educational institutions, who assess documentation, and carry out a five-day visit to the institution culminating in a written report. In the final stage of the Quality Review, the institution would provide an action plan for enhancing quality.

The objectives for the Quality Review process can be summarized as follows:

  • To contribute, in conjunction with other mechanisms, to the promotion and enhancement of high quality learning
  • To ensure that students, employers and others can have ready access to easily understandable, reliable and meaningful public information about the extent to which institutions are offering programmes of study that meet general national expectations in respect to standards and quality
  • To ensure that if the quality and standards of provision are found to be weak or seriously deficient, there exists a basis for ensuring rapid action to improve them
  • To provide a means of securing external accountability for the use of public and private funds received by institutions

Individuals wishing to express an interest in joining the pool of reviewers are requested to complete and send to ICDE the attached form together with a brief curriculum vitae on no more than two pages.

Expressions of interest should be sent by e-mail to icde@icde.org by 29 June 2012. The planning of reviews will begin in September 2012.

Questions may be directed to Nick Moe-Pryce, Information and Membership Services Officer pryce@icde.org.
