ICDE explores partnership with SEAMEO

Tian Belawati represented the Executive Committee of ICDE at the 34th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) High Official Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand in January 2012. Professor Belawati presented a working paper on developments and trends in higher education and the uptake of distance and online learning, and a proposal for partnership with the organization.

The presentation entitled, “Partnership to Meet Opportunities and Challenges Coming from a More Open and Online World” provided information on ICDE's initiatives towards the expansion of high quality open and distance learning, and on the development and use of open educational resources.

The meeting expressed interest in exploring potential collaborations on open educational resources and endorsed the identification of possible areas of future cooperation between SEAMEO and ICDE.

The ICDE and SEAMEO secretariats will now coordinate on identifying well-defined initiatives of mutual concern including funding requirements, responsibilities of both parties, and other resources needed to undertake the collaboration. The details of a recommendation for future cooperation are expected to be presented to the 35th SEAMEO High Officials Meeting in November 2012.
