The 2010 ICDE Standing Conference of Presidents (continued)

Working groups

The Standing Conference of Presidents attracts high level participation from around the world. This year, and in recognition of the importance of the theme and discussions for African institutions, executive heads of institutions with membership in the African Council of Distance Education (ACDE) were invited to join ICDE SCOP members.

The African – and developing world - perspective was therefore guaranteed in each of the working groups which discussed four specific challenges in relation to bridging the development gap.

The significance of SCOP

In concluding the 2010 ICDE Standing Conference of Presidents, Dr. Frits Pannekoek, President of ICDE and President of Athabasca University, Canada, thanked the working groups for their diligence and hard work. He also underlined the significance of the Standing Conference of Presidents as a forum where ideas for cooperation and exchange come about and where collegial relationships are developed:

“One of the great powers of ICDE is that it provides the ability to network, the ability to meet in groups, the ability to expand one's horizons and one’s mind.”

“ICDE proves that we are part of the connected society, and that we are the connected leaders of open and distance learning.”
